On-The-Job Training

On-the-Job Training takes place at a work site that is integrated into the community, helping program participants learn how to join and thrive in integrated employment. 

How It Works

A supervisor provides instruction and feedback to help the individual develop or re-establish acceptable work habits and behaviors.

The trainee learns from employees who do not have disabilities, hold permanent positions, and earn at least minimum wage, acclimating them into the workplace while gaining valuable work experience.

Easterseals pays the trainee directly with an amount equal to the minimum wage per hour and is covered under Workers' Compensation Insurance.

• Individuals participating in OJT have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate their abilities, allowing them to concentrate on long-term employment as a realistic goal

Benefits to the Employer

• Employers participating in On-the-Job Training have the opportunity to see if the job and their business are a good fit for the individual.
• Reimbursement for the individual's training salary is paid by Easterseals
• Support services include, but are not limited to uniforms, tools, bus passes, and training support by trained job coaches
• Job site assessment and any needed accommodations
• Federal tax credits may be available to those who hire individuals with disabilities into permanent positions
• Fulfill your 503 obligations if you are a federal contractor
